Celery - the good? (or is it?) vegetable

Celery. A vegetable/herb. And vegetables are obviously good for health aren' t they? They give you the vitamins and fibre you so crucially need in order not to get sick, and well, you know... do that other thing.

Well, according to research (and it may well have been proven), celery is good at reducing blood pressure and relieving muscle spasms. Celery is also a diuretic which aids in digestion. Celery acts as an antioxidant and a mild sedative. Celery also may help relieve the symptoms of arthritis.

So, in general, celery is good for all. You may be thinking, there's totally no harm in coming into contact with a stalk of celery right? Well, if you were thinking so, then you are WRONG.

Wha... Why!? One might ask.

Well, if you have been watching a little bit of football, and are fans of the EPL club Chelsea (the club owned by an extremely rich Russian billionaire), then you may understand what I'm hitting at.

Celery, deemed as a Chelsea tradition for quite some time now (although how it became a tradition I don't really know) has been banned from the stadium. The reason? Referees have reported the throwing of celery by fans during the few recent matches in which Chelsea has been playing in. This includes the Carling Cup Final where they were up against bitter rivals Arsenal, who had players complaining that they were being pelted by salads while taking corners. Why wasn't I there to see them pelting Arsenal players with celery!!! Er I mean, how could they do such horrible things?

"The throwing of anything at a football match, including celery, is a criminal offence for which you can be arrested and end up with a criminal record. In future, if anyone is found attempting to bring celery into Stamford Bridge they could be refused entry and anyone caught throwing celery will face a ban." -- a statement from the club's website.

What a laugh. To think that of all items being banned from a football stadium, celery would be one of them. So what if you get pelted by celery? It's health food isn't it? =p

"Yea, why don't you stand right there and let me pelt celery at you then," any Arsenal fan would tell me.

Pffffft. As if I'd let anyone do that.
